Do I need a Linux or Windows hosting plan?

One of the most frequent questions we tend to be asked when choosing a hosting plan is:

If my computer uses Windows, do I need a Windows hosting plan?

No! This is a common misconception. Actually, a vast majority of sites hosted on the Internet are hosted on a Linux platform.

Determining the type of hosting account you will need is dependant on the type of environment your website is coded in.

If your website was designed in ASP.NET or you require the need to run .asp pages or Microsoft SQL Server, then you need Windows hosting.

Everything else, such as PHP, MySQL, WordPress, Joomla, etc. was designed for and typically does best on Linux web hosting.
